My name is Silvia Ghiara. I’m an Italian mother tongue freelance translator from English and French.
I offer translation services for dubbing and subtitling purposes. I also deal with technical translations (marketing and IT) and with texts for the web, tourism websites and apps.
I graduated in linguistics with a thesis on the relationship between brain structure and the structure of language. My specialisation in translation is the result of a post-graduate diploma in technical translations, various specialist training courses and lots of practice.
I believe that to do a good job you need discipline, patience and attention to detail.
Translating dialogues is a real training ground that teaches you how to solve puns of all different kinds, grasp cultural references and engage in thorough research without stopping at the first match. This has helped me to develop a keen ear and awareness – extremely valuable skills that are essential to success.
